mixing meditation practices

Gassho Nishijima Sensei _||_

What is your opinion on mixing different meditation practices?

I have been practicing Shikantaza for about 15 months now. But I've moved to a new area and found that the temple that best fits my schedule on a regular basis practices vipassana. What do you think are the benefits and/or negative consequences of combining these two practices?

Dear Mr. Thomas Amundsen,

Thank you very much for your question, but unfortunately I do not have any experience to practice vipassana at all. Therefore it is completely impossible for me to say anything on vipassana.

However Master Dogen recommended us to practice only one kind of practice solely. Therefore I recommend you to practice Zazen only, and I think that it might be better for you to practice Zazen only, and it is better for you not to practice vipassana together.
